Black History Month Children's Book Spotlight!
Madam C.J. Walker by Katie Marsico is a biography on the life of Madam C.J, Walker who was the first female and African American self-made millionaire in American history. Born Sarah Breedlove, she rose out of poverty by creating her own beauty brand that focused on African American women. During the late 1800s to early 1900s it was difficult for African American women to find beauty products that worked for their specific needs. Madam C.J. Walker realized this and eventually formed a beauty empire that lasted for decades.
