PICTURE BOOK REVIEW BY MS. CHELSEA

 Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall

“Working up the Courage to take a big leap is hard

But Jabari is nearly almost ready to make a great big splash”

Jabari has finished his swimming lessons and passed his swimming test. Now he’s ready to make a splash! When he and his family get to the pool the diving board seems a lot higher and a lot scarier. Jabari Jumps is a very sweet, short children’s book following little Jabari as he tries to work up the courage to jump off the diving board. The book shows children that everyone gets scared sometimes and that it is normal part of growing up. It also shows Jabari how his loved ones can help him overcome his fears. This story is written and illustrated by Gaia Cornwall. Jabari Jumps is about facing your fears, changing your perspective, and having fun in the process.

This is a great book to read to celebrate picture books because the illustrations are dynamic. Share this book with your 4-8 year olds today.

NATIONAL PICTURE BOOK MONTH WITH MS. CHELSEA - BOOK REVIEW

 Busy-Eyed Day

“Look around….

What do you see?”

"Busy-Eyed Day" by Anne Marie Pace presents a fun way to think about our eyes, and it shows children to be inquisitive about their surroundings. This picture book presents language poetically and playfully. The story is sweet and straightforward. The illustrations by Frann Preston-Gannon are fun to look at and engaging. Busy-Eyed Day is an excellent book for family storytime with infants and toddlers. Using our eyes can be really fun, and this world has a lot to see!

Join Sammi and Zach on a day at the park with their mother and grandmother.  There is a great diversity of characters represented in this picture book. The central family is a multigenerational Black family, and there are other characters of all kinds in the park.
